I have always had a deep fondness for animals from early on in life. As a kid I remember begging my parents for a pet, but always being told no. I told my Mom, that one day when I grew up and had a house of my own, I would have so many pets, it would be like a zoo! I currently have four dogs and two cats. Not quite a zoo, but close enough from my Mom’s perspective. Later on in life, my husband got orders for Germany, where we were stationed for the next five years. When we finally returned stateside, I found my baby sister was no longer such a baby, but now a young teenager. I thought it would be a good idea to show her how great it would feel, to give some of your time without getting anything monetary in return. What better way to spend that time, than volunteering for an animal shelter?! Our first day volunteering with Moore Humane Society, was at a Petsmart adoption event. We had a blast! In talking to one of the employees there, I found they were hiring, and filled out a job application on site. To my delight, I was hired on spot! I was thrilled! Now I would be surrounded by animals at home and at work! Here I am today, going into almost my 11th year with Moore Humane Society! My favorite part of my job, is when an animal comes to us, terrified, sick or injured, and then walks out into their new home, healthy and with a new found love and trust for people. When they finally step towards you for a little love and affection, it just melts my heart.
